Hot Rod Speedshop Jesus and Mary

Hot Rod Speedshop Jesus and Mary

Here is a Jesus and Mary thermometer I found. It advertises a "Hi Speed" shop and is dated 1954 on the back. Too cool! I couldn't resist it because this guy named Peter Gilstrap runs a funny website called the Jesus of the Week to whom I plan on contributing. You can see that the thermometer is broken... but that's OK. We all know it's just HOT! I couldn't help but notice how much like the House of Blues heart the icons on their tunics. I heard the original HOB heart was nearly an exact match to a Catholic heart, like on this thermometer, and HOB eventually modified it to be different. I liked the old one better. Here is the current HOB heart, click on it to go to the House of Blues website.

I found it when browsing at the Amherst, NH antique auto parts swap meet looking for parts for the Bluesmobile, a 1954 Olds 98 Deluxe Hardtop Coupe. Too bad the thermometer advertizes a Dodge & Plymouth place, oh well. By the way, I use the car as transportation for my blues adventures, found at www.bluesmovers.com. I play trumpet... -iii-|.

Here's a picture of the Bluesmobile. Like the registration plate? I put the Jesus and Mary thermometer on the dash right near my "Jake Blues" doll. Now I have triple protection, Jesus, Mary, and Jake!
